A total of 235 students from Bop Htaw and the Mon National College were awarded diplomas at the first graduation ceremony organized by the Mon National Education Department.
The conferral of degrees by the Mon National College for the first time marks a major milestone in Mon educational history, said Dr. Pon Nya Mon, Chancellor of the Mon National College.

“This is a significant achievement for us. In the history of the Mon people, this is the first time a college degree graduation ceremony has been held. It is a source of pride for all Mon people. We will continue to award degrees in the coming years. Starting next year, we expect around 100 students annually to receive degrees,” he said.
The Mon National College was established in 2022 in an area controlled by the New Mon State Party (NMSP). Within three years of its founding, the college conferred degrees on 185 students.
Dr. Pon Nya Mon said the achievement was made possible through the collective efforts of Mon monks, community leaders, members of the public, donors, teachers, and parents.
He also invited Mon youth interested in higher education to apply for admission in April, noting that applications will be accepted prior to the Thingyan festival.
“The Mon National College always welcomes young people who wish to pursue their studies. We encourage Mon youth to maintain their desire for education and to apply. We are prepared to accept a large number of students this year,” he said.
According to college officials, graduates of the Mon National College are eligible to continue their studies at international universities.
