A Married Couple Killed in Landmine Explosion Near Pala Town

A married couple from Zayat Seik village in Pala town, Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region, were killed after stepping on a landmine, according to local residents.

The couple, both around 40 years old, were reportedly on their way to cut nipa palm leaves on February 13 when they triggered the explosion.

Both sustained critical injuries and died while being transported for medical treatment. A local resident said the husband died while being taken to a nearby village clinic, while the wife died shortly after arriving at the clinic.

Residents said clashes have been taking place in areas surrounding Pala town between junta troops and revolutionary forces.

They also reported that junta forces have carried out repeated arson attacks on homes in Pala town and several nearby villages in recent days.
