Nine military junta troops were killed and several weapons were seized during fighting in Thayetchaung Township, Myeik–Dawei District, an area under the control of the Karen National Union (KNU), according to a statement released by the KNU.
The clash took place on February 10 after a combined column of Light Infantry Battalions 403, 404 and 405 advanced from Thayetchaung town to reinforce the Winwa military base.
The junta column was intercepted by joint resistance forces, including the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 4, Battalion 12, and Brigade 6, Battalion 27.
The KNU said nine junta soldiers were killed in the fighting. Resistance forces seized two MA-1 rifles, five MA-3 rifles and other ammunition from the scene.
Fighting continues in parts of Myeik–Dawei District as junta forces attempt to reinforce their positions, while resistance groups maintain operations in the area.
