-

Homes in Pala Town, Palaw Township, Myeik District, Tanintharyi Region, were set on fire and destroyed by Military Commission forces on the night of February 28, according to local residents and resistance forces.

Military Commission troops stationed in Ward No. (1) of Pala Town reportedly fired small arms toward Pitat village and then burned down homes in Wards No. (1) and (2).

Due to the arson attacks, houses in Wards No. (1) and (2) were still burning as of the morning of February 29, according to resistance forces.

“The houses are still burning this morning,” said a resistance fighter on the ground.

After clashes broke out between Military Commission forces and resistance groups near Pala Town, the Military Commission forces continued to deliberately set fire to civilian homes.

Previously, on January 27, Military Commission troops entered Ward No. (4) of Pala Town (Sar Pho Seik Ward) and fired both heavy and small weapons, despite there being no fighting at the time, before burning down homes.

According to a statement released by the Palaw Township People’s Defense Force, a total of 78 houses in Ward No. (4) of Pala Town were destroyed by fire as a result of the Military Commission’s arson attacks.
