Areas in Mon State Where Phase Two of the Election Will Not Be Held

Bilin Township

In Bilin Township, where the Military Commission’s Phase Two election is scheduled for January 11th, a total of 47 polling stations have been opened, with 9,606 eligible voters. However, the election will not be held in several village tracts designated as non-election areas. These include Taipyu Chaung, Alu, Alinpyan, Phowa Thein, Gonnyaing Nwe, Winthaing, Kadipu, Datrat, Shwe Yaung Pya, Khat Chaung, Tanyin Kone, Kazaing, Yin-ohn, Meilan, Meilan Gaung, Ahonewa, Phaya Thein, Natgyi, Meinathan, Meipali, Piti Village Tract, Bawno Khi, Asu Chaung, Wintapan, Laykay, Kyoe Wine, Kyartwin, and Kyauk Lone Gyi.

In Bilin constituency, U Han Lin Mon from the Mon Unity Party (MUP) is contesting the Amyotha Hluttaw (House of Nationalities) seat under a winner-takes-all system. No candidates are contesting the Pyithu Hluttaw or State Hluttaw seats.

Paung Township

In Paung Township, 90 polling stations have been opened for Phase Two of the election, with 173,038 eligible voters. The Military Commission has designated the Uttan Bridge, Kyauk Yay Twin, Inbyaung, and Thein Eain village tracts as areas where the election will not be held.

In Paung constituency, under the first-past-the-post system, the Mon Unity Party candidates are U Bo Win for the Pyithu Hluttaw, Min Oung Janeh for the Amyotha Hluttaw, and U Than Khine for the State Hluttaw.

Mudon Township

In Mudon Township, 100 polling stations have been opened, with 168,784 eligible voters. No wards or village tracts in the township have been designated as non-election areas.

Under the first-past-the-post system, Mon Unity Party candidates are Min Wunna Gyi for the Pyithu Hluttaw, U Khin Maung Htwe (also known as Nai Min Jao Noi) for the Amyotha Hluttaw, and U Htay Naing (also known as Nai Am So) for the State Hluttaw.

Thanbyuzayat Township

In Thanbyuzayat Township, the Military Commission has opened 55 polling stations, with 107,363 eligible voters. Village tracts designated as non-election areas include Weh Win Kara, Karote Pi, Sakhan Gyi, Weh Kalaung, Ankhai, Kawlay, Htinshu, Weh Khami, Kyaung Ywar, and Anin.

In Thanbyuzayat constituency, Mon Unity Party candidates under the first-past-the-post system are Nai Than Shwe for the Pyithu Hluttaw, U Khin Maung Htwe (also known as Nai Min Saw Nwe) for the Amyotha Hluttaw, and U Shwe Luu for the State Hluttaw.

Ye Township

In Ye Township, 29 polling stations have been opened, with 47,637 eligible voters. The Military Commission has designated Asin, Zee Phyu Thaung, Abaw, Andin, Kyauk Mi Chaung, Chaung Taung, Duya, Thingyan Kyun, Hangan, Donphi, Kawdut, Belamine, Thaung Pyin, Hnit Karin, Belamu, Kaninkamot, Hnin Sone, Taung Bon, Kawhlaing, Kabyar, Magyi, Yin-ye, and Kyone Nye as areas where the election will not be held.

In Ye constituency, the Mon Unity Party candidates are Daw Myint Than for the Pyithu Hluttaw, Nai Cham Doi for the Amyotha Hluttaw, and Mi Lawi Han for the State Hluttaw.

Among the five townships in Mon State scheduled to hold Phase Two of the election, Ye Township and Bilin Township are considered areas of strong revolutionary armed activity. Local residents have said revolutionary forces are expected to intensify military operations during the election period.
