The CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) education community in Pulaw Township, Tanintharyi Region, is urging authorities to promptly investigate and uncover the truth behind the unlawful killing of a CDM teacher and her husband, according to IMNA sources.
On December 16th, around 1 a.m., a group of armed assailants attacked and killed Daw Aye Thi Aung, a senior township education official, and her husband in their home. The killing took place in Sar Khell Village, Du Ring Pin Shaung Village tract, which is within a resistance-controlled area of Pulaw Township.
On December 21st, the Karen National Union (KNU) for Myeik–Dawei District clarified that the perpetrators were four individuals detained at the KNDO Battalion 7, Brigade 5. They had escaped custody, and allegedly attacked the couple with a knife after being denied food.
The KNU–Myeik–Dawei statement contains inconsistencies with on-the-ground reports, prompting local CDM education members to call for a thorough and immediate investigation by responsible authorities.

“This incident represents a serious threat to the entire education sector within resistance areas. We want the truth uncovered as soon as possible. While some arrests have been made, reported details do not match the situation on the ground,” a local CDM source said.
The KNU statement claims the named individuals were not the actual perpetrators, but provides no detailed clarification. IMNA has not been able to independently verify the claim.
Local observers emphasize that authorities controlling the area should ensure the safety of CDM staff working under NUG (National Unity Government) administration and implement more effective protective measures.
On December 17th, fifteen CDM education groups across Tanintharyi called for an immediate investigation into the killing of the Pulaw Township education official and her husband.
Similar incidents occurred in 2024, when a CDM township education official, her husband, and their three-month-old daughter in Kani Township, Sagaing Region, were killed by a group of assailants in a resistance-controlled area, and justice has yet to be served.
