The military junta is closely monitoring social media activity around the clock, prompting warnings for local people to be cautious about what they post and say online, according to an IT instructor in Mawlamyine.
The IT instructor said that during the election period, authorities are paying close attention to political content shared on social media, and arrests have already occurred as a result of online posts.

“Nowadays, people share everything on social media, including political opinions. If the authorities become suspicious, they may arrest people, question them, or even send them to prison,” he said, urging users to avoid posting political content.
He added that surveillance is not limited to online spaces. During the election period, the military junta is also monitoring people directly on the ground, with informants reportedly active in neighborhoods and villages.
“In towns, people can no longer speak freely. Even small comments can be dangerous. What someone says, or even their facial expressions, can be used against them at any time. It is safer to remain silent, even in daily life.” another IT professional said.
Amid the ongoing political and military situation, the military junta has also installed CCTV cameras along major roads in many towns, further strengthening its 24-hour monitoring of the public, according to local sources.
