In Ye town, Mon State, the home of the “Shwe Lin Yone” gold shop owner in Yanmyoaung ward was broken into, and gold jewelry worth millions of kyats was stolen, according to local residents.
The burglary occurred around 2 a.m. on September 23 during heavy rainfall, when thieves entered the house by breaking through the roof.
Gold items estimated to be worth between 40 and 50 million kyats were taken.

“The jewelry was kept upstairs, while the family was sleeping downstairs. The thieves managed to steal nearly 4,000 to 5000 lakh kyats worth of gold items,” a local resident said.
A case has been filed at the Ye Township police station, but no arrests have been made so far.
Residents noted that several shops in Ye have also been recently targeted by burglars. Despite a nighttime curfew order in the town, break-ins and thefts continue to occur.
On September 11, in a separate incident, an armed robbery took place in Thanbyuzayat Township’s Kyarkan ward, where a couple returning home after closing their gold shop was held at gunpoint and robbed of jewelry.
