The Karen National Union (KNU) reported that two civilians were killed and one injured when the military junta deliberately shelled villages in Mu Township, Khalwel Lwehtoo District, an area under KNU administration.
According to the statement, at around 6:30 p.m. on September 4, junta forces from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 351 and Infantry Battalion (IB) 60 fired two 120mm mortar shells into Pho Thaung Su Village.
The attack killed Saw Shwe Lu (55) and Saw Pway Pway (50), while Saw Khin Hla (58) was injured. Two cows were also killed in the shelling.
The KNU condemned the junta for “indiscriminate and deliberate” artillery fire that not only killed innocent civilians but also damaged homes and left villagers in fear.
