The Youth Revolutionary Force (YRF) and Battalion 27, Company 5 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) jointly attacked the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB-591), based in Kyaung Ywar village, Ye Township, Mon State, on the morning of August 23, according to a YRF statement.
The assault began around 5:30 a.m., when the joint resistance force fired three 40mm rounds at the battalion, followed by small arms fire. LIB-591 operates under the command of Military Operations Command (MOC-19), headquartered in Ye Township.
As a result of the attack, one junta soldier was killed and at least three others were injured, according to initial reports gathered by the resistance.

“We coordinated with KNLA Battalion 27, Company 5, and attacked LIB-591 in Kyaung Ywar with both heavy and light weapons. From our military assessment, one enemy soldier was confirmed killed and no fewer than three were wounded,” said a YRF officer.
Although junta troops did not immediately return fire, artillery units based in Ye Township shelled surrounding areas as the resistance withdrew.
Following the clash, junta-aligned militia groups reinforced LIB-591 with two military trucks carrying additional troops. Security in and around the village has since tightened, with house-to-house searches reportedly targeting young people.
“After the attack, two trucks full of junta soldiers arrived, and they started conducting inspections along roads and inside the village. They are focusing mainly on youth. The checks have been very strict since yesterday and today,” the YRF officer added.
Just a day earlier, on August 22, resistance forces from the Ramonnya Mon Army (RMA) also attacked the junta’s checkpoint at the Hpaungsein, a key entry point to Thanbyuzayat town, sparking clashes in which one junta soldier was killed.
