A village administrator from Thingangyun Village in Ye Township, Mon state, was shot dead on July 16 by an unidentified gunman, according to local sources.
A man around 50 years old, who is the village administrator of Thingangyun village, was shot by an armed man. The incident happened around 3 PM on July 16, while he was riding his motorbike back from a meeting in Ye town. The gunman had been waiting for him on the road.

“He was traveling alone on his motorcycle. His body was later found near a farmland road outside the village. He had been shot dead, but we don’t know who did it,” said a Ye local.
Sources close to the township administrative team stated that the slain administrator had ties to the military junta and was reportedly on his way to Ye Town for a meeting related to plans for expanding a military-run checkpoint in the village.
“A while back, the Lin Oo group announced that they would reinforce their forces and open a new gate there. Since they said they were going to deploy their men, it seems Lin Oo’s group was leading the effort. That’s why people assumed he was close to the junta,” said a local familiar with the situation.
No armed group operating in the area has claimed responsibility for the killing.
This incident follows another fatal shooting on July 12, when a member of the People’s Defense Force (PDF) in his 50s was gunned down by unknown assailants along the Abaw-Duya road, also in Ye Township.
Ye Township has seen a rise in targeted killings, with village administrators, government staff, and junta-affiliated individuals frequently being attacked. This week alone, two such individuals have been assassinated.
