National Development Party Opens Offices in Seven Townships Across Mon State

-

The National Development Party (NDP) has opened township offices in seven townships across Mon State, according to party officials.

The party currently operates offices in Mawlamyine, Kyaikmaraw, Chaungzon, Mudon, Thanbyuzayat, Paung, and Thaton townships. However, the NDP has not yet established offices in some remaining townships due to ongoing security concerns.

“We are still assessing the security situation in Kyaikto, Bilin, and Ye townships. Once conditions improve, we plan to open offices there as well,” a party representative said.

The NDP also stated that it is currently working to address the challenges faced by the public through legal and peaceful means wherever possible.

In the lead-up to the military-organized election, several other nationally active parties, including the People’s Party, the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (also known as the White Tiger Party), and the People’s Pioneer Party have also begun opening local offices and mobilizing for election campaigns.

Although the military junta’s Union Election Commission has officially registered nine political parties to contest nationwide, only a few have so far opened local offices at the township level.

In Mon State, the Mon Unity Party (MUP) is expected to compete at the state level, while the nine registered national parties are also preparing to contest, potentially bringing the total number of participating parties in Mon State to around ten.

The junta leader previously announced that the general election will be held in December 2025 or January 2026.
