Two members of the Shwe Hintar Benevolence Association from Mawtkanin village in Ye Township, Mon State, were attacked and stabbed by four men, leaving one of them seriously injured, according to local sources.
The incident occurred around 6 PM on July 9. The two association members were riding motorcycles from Lamaing town when they were followed by four men on two motorbikes. The attackers caught up with them in the Kawlawe ward of Mawtkanin village and carried out the stabbing.
A 17-year-old association member sustained serious head injuries in the attack, while 27-year-old Maung Lin Htet Maung, who was riding behind, escaped unharmed.
The four perpetrators fled the scene, heading back toward Lamaing town after the attack.
The injured victim is currently receiving treatment at Lamaing Hospital. The Shwe Hintar Benevolence Association has filed a formal complaint and is calling for accountability.

“The attackers are definitely from Lamaing. While the injured member was still at the hospital, they came and intimidated another of our members outside the hospital on motorbikes,” said one association representative.
The suspects were reportedly identified through CCTV footage. The association has publicly urged the attackers to confess and apologize through a post on their social media page.
This is not the first act of violence in the area. On May 13, five masked men in civilian clothes entered a home in Kawlawe ward and assaulted a couple with sticks.
Since the 2021 military coup, the police station in Lamaing has remained closed, with law enforcement relocated to a military base in Mawtkanin. This shift has left locals without proper access to security or legal recourse.
Due to the weakened rule of law, violent crimes, including theft and killings, continue unabated. From January to June 2025 alone, over 20 people have been killed and at least six others injured in violent incidents, according to data compiled by IMNA.
