Mon-Based Resistance Groups Vow to Disrupt Military Junta’s 2025 Election

-

Resistance forces operating in Mon State have declared their intention to block the military junta’s 2025 general election by various means. They have  called the election  a sham and warning of potential violence during the election period.

The military junta has announced that it will hold a general election in December 2025 and begun preparations across different states and regions.

A commander from the Dawna Column, operating under Strategic Region 33 told IMNA, “Our resistance forces will use every means possible to prevent the election, both in territories we control and in junta-held areas. In our zones, the people will express their opposition clearly. We will use civil resistance methods and, where necessary, military force. Since the country is still at war, we cannot say for certain where and when bloodshed may occur during the election period.”

He also warned that the junta is preparing to use electronic voting systems to manipulate the process and deceive the public.

Dr. Thiri Mon Chan, a senior officer from the Rehmonnya Joint Forces, added, “As long as the junta continues its preparations, we urge civilians to remain alert and exercise caution, especially in conflict-prone areas. And we strongly call on Mon political parties to completely reject participation in the junta-organized election. Any party or individual that ignores this warning and joins the junta’s fake electoral process will be considered a supporter of the dictatorship and treated accordingly — even through military means.”

Resistance groups have publicly declared their intent to sabotage the junta’s election plans, prompting the regime to reinforce security in its controlled zones and increase military offensives to regain resistance-held territory.

Meanwhile, electronic voting machines (MEVMs) have reportedly arrived in multiple states and regions, and training sessions on how to operate them are underway.
