A 64-year-old man was shot and killed inside his home in Sanpya Village, Ye Township, Mon State, according to local residents.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on June 25, when two unidentified gunmen arrived at the victim’s house on a motorcycle and opened fire. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the head and chest and died at the scene.
“He used to trade seasonal fruits like durian, mangosteen, and coconuts. The two men came pretending to buy durians and then suddenly shot him,” said a local source.
At the time of the shooting, the victim’s younger sister was also present in the house, sources said.

The victim, originally from Naypyidaw, had been living in Sanpya Village for more than ten years, operating as a middleman in the local fruit trade, according to locals. They added that he had no known disputes with residents and no ties to any armed groups.
Following the incident, junta troops surrounded the victim’s home and nearby area in large numbers and began conducting searches.
It remains unclear which armed group was responsible for the shooting or what the motive was. IMNA is continuing to investigate and verify the details.
Since the military seized power, targeted killings have become frequent in Ye Township, particularly against junta-linked officials, local administrators, and others associated with the regime. In May alone, at least five men were killed in similar attacks across Mon State, with no group claiming responsibility.
