Following a meeting held on May 6th, 2025, representatives from the New Mon State Party, Mon Unity Party, and three other sectors of Mon organisations successfully restored the Mon Affairs Union (MAU).
The Mon Affairs Union (MAU) was reconstituted under a new framework. It now has 19 members: five representatives from the New Mon State Party, five from the Mon Unity Party, and nine representatives from various Mon civil society organisations.
The re-established MAU now consists of 3 monks, 3 chairpersons, 3 general secretaries, and 13 committee members who will manage the organisation going forward.

The Mon Affairs Union (MAU), was originally formed in 2022, and consisted of 3 representatives from the New Mon State Party, 3 representatives from the Mon Unity Party, and 5 representatives from the Mon community organisations, totalling 11 members.
Over the course of three years (2022 to 2025) leading to a 4-day conference held at Dhatumala monastery in Mawlamyine from April 2nd to the 5th this year, ongoing discussions led to an agreement to reconstitute the MAU.
During the recent conference, three main Mon groups — the New Mon State Party, the Mon Unity Party, and Mon community organisations — came together and successfully re-established the Mon Affairs Union (MAU).
In 2007, the Mon Affairs Union (MAU) originated from the fourth Mon National Affairs Conference, which was held on the Myanmar border in Palae Don Ptaik village. At that time, local committees were formed into four organisations— the armed revolutionary organisation, the urban organisation, the border and Thailand-based organisation, and a foreign relations organisation.
The Mon Affairs Union (MAU) was suspended after the 2013 Mon National Conference, after political party leaders had a major disagreement, causing a breakdown in unity and coordination.
Following the suspension, initial discussions on restructuring the Mon Affairs Union (MAU) were initiated at the Mon National Conference held in Paunglawkyun Village in 2016, and subsequently at the Mon National Conference held at Nyi Sa Camp in 2022. These deliberations culminated in the formal re-establishment of the MAU this year.
