A 13-year-old schoolgirl from Kawtsein village, located in Mawlamyine Township, Mon State, was found raped and murdered, according to local sources.
The victim reportedly left her home around 7 a.m. on May 26, telling family members she was going to collect coconuts. She did not return home and was reported missing shortly afterward.

Her body was discovered the next morning, around 6:30 a.m. on May 27, in the yard of a coconut plantation owned by a local resident, U Maung Oo. A person close to the military junta’s administrative team confirmed the incident and stated that the location is situated slightly outside the township of Mawlamyine.
“The area is a bit far from central Mawlamyine. We’re still in the process of investigating,” the source said.
The girl’s body was found with signs of sexual assault and severe injuries, including a slit windpipe, a deep wound above her right eyebrow, and lacerations to her upper lip.
Authorities have detained two male suspects believed to be connected to the crime. Interrogations are currently underway.
In a similar case, a 9th grade student from Kyunkone village in Taungoo Township, Bago Region, was reportedly raped and murdered by two men on March 19, according to local sources.
Human rights activists say such incidents have become increasingly common since the military coup. They report a growing breakdown in the rule of law across the country, with communities witnessing a surge in violent crimes including unprovoked and premeditated killings often carried out in broad daylight and without consequence.
