The New Mon State Party – Anti-Dictatorship (NMSP-AD) and the Mon Liberation Army (MLA) have officially announced their merger to form a new armed group called the Ramonmya Mon Army (RMA), according to a statement released on May 24, via social media platforms.
The merger was led by the political and military leadership bodies of both groups. A joint Political-Military Committee has been formed with 26 members, comprising representatives from both NMSP-AD and MLA leadership.
Under the direction of this joint committee, a Military Command Committee made up of seven members has been established to lead RMA’s military operations. The statement appointed Brigadier General Salun Htaw as the Commander-in-Chief, Brigadier General Soe Win as the Deputy Commander-in-Chief (1) and Brigadier General Kyi San as the Deputy Commander-in-Chief (2).
The newly formed NMSP(AD)/RMA declared its full commitment to the Mon people’s right to self-determination and pledged to collaborate with other ethnic revolutionary alliances and People’s Defense Forces (PDFs) to accelerate the downfall of the military dictatorship and to establish an independent and free Mon State.
