Troops from the New Mon State Party (Anti-Military Dictatorship), NMSP-AD, launched an attack on junta forces stationed near Yaungdaung Village in Mon State’s Mudon Township.
The clash occurred around 12 p.m. on May 20 near the Mudon-Thanbyuzayat road, where members of the junta’s Artillery Battalion 318 had been deployed. The NMSP-AD attack reportedly left one junta soldier dead and approximately five others injured, including three who sustained serious wounds, said Nai Gongsakar, the NMSP-AD spokesperson.

“On May 20, our forces based in the Mudon area engaged junta troops positioned near Yaungdaung Village. The clash lasted for about 30 minutes. From what we’ve learned, one of their soldiers was killed, and three were seriously injured. Altogether, about five may have been wounded. On our side, one fighter suffered a minor injury,” the spokesperson said.
In the aftermath of the clash, junta forces reportedly reinforced security along the Mudon-Thanbyuzayat road and began conducting searches on travelers.
Although gunfire has since subsided, a local resident urged caution when traveling through the area.
“There was fighting yesterday at theYaungdaung road junction. After that, the junta troops started guarding the area. Now things seem to have returned to normal, but people are still traveling cautiously. Locals are a bit frightened,” the resident told IMNA.
Mudon Township is known as an active territory of the NMSP-AD, where the group frequently launches attacks on junta bases and outposts, including drone strikes. NMSP-AD forces also target pro-junta militia members and local administrators, with periodic assassinations and armed raids reported.
