A military junta patrol in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, was ambushed by resistance forces while conducting a security operation along Union Highway No. 8.
The attack occurred around 9:00 a.m. on March 24 between Nyin Htwe and Kyauk Ka Nyar villages, where the Yebyu People’s Defense Force (YPPDF) intercepted the military convoy. A YPPDF officer reported that at least 20 junta soldiers were killed in the clash.

“Our comrades launched an ambush on their security patrol. The battle lasted for about two hours, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The junta responded with mortar shelling and airstrikes, deploying a military aircraft to drop bombs throughout the engagement. Their reinforcement strength exceeded 150 troops. We confirmed more than 20 enemy casualties,” the officer stated.
The attack was reportedly carried out by the Yebyu People’s Defense Force (YPPDF) in coordination with the Duraka Battalion of the Dawei National Liberation Army (DNLA).
Local residents have been urged to exercise caution as military operations in the area intensify. The YPPDF also warned civilians to stay vigilant against potential junta airstrikes and to follow safety guidelines to mitigate risks.
