A farm worker in Weakhami Village, Thanbyuzayat Township, sustained severe injuries after stepping on a landmine, according to local sources.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of March 7, when 43-year-old U Nandar Tun, a resident of Weakhami Village, was on his way to a rubber plantation near the village. The explosion resulted in the amputation of his left foot, along with multiple injuries to his right shin, left forearm, and lower left abdomen, a local source reported.

“He was heading to the plantation to clear the land when he stepped on a planted mine along the path. His injuries are severe, and he is now receiving medical treatment at the hospital. We frequently hear about similar landmine incidents in the area, but we don’t know who is responsible for planting them,” said a Thanbyuzayat resident.
Due to the severity of his injuries, U Nandar Tun was transferred from Thanbyuzayat Township Hospital to Mawlamyine General Hospital for further treatment.
Landmine explosions have been a recurring danger in Thanbyuzayat Township, with multiple casualties reported in 2024. Since the military coup, Mon State has seen a resurgence in landmine threats, particularly in conflict-affected townships such as Thanbyuzayat, Ye, Kyaikto, Bilin, Thaton, and Kyaikmaraw.
In one such incident, on January 9, a married couple from Mayankone Village, Kyaikmayaw Township, stepped on a landmine. The husband was killed, while the wife suffered critical injuries.
