Village Administrator Shot Dead in Paung Township, Wife Injured

-

The administrator of Nyaungkonegyi village in Paung Township, Mon State, was shot and killed, while his wife sustained injuries in an early morning attack on February 26, according to local sources.

At around 6:20 a.m., three armed men arrived on two motorcycles and entered the compound of U Myint Soe, the village administrator. They reportedly posed as officials conducting administrative work before opening fire on him and his wife, Daw Mi Ngae.

“They pretended they were there for paperwork and entered the yard. As soon as they got inside, they started shooting. The administrator died on the spot, and his wife was hit twice,” said a local resident.

U Myint Soe suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the chest and neck, while Daw Mi Ngae sustained injuries to her abdomen and left arm. She was taken to Paung Township Public Hospital for treatment.

The attackers fled the scene on motorcycles toward Nyaungkonegyi village’s primary school, witnesses reported.

No armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and authorities have yet to determine who carried it out.

In a similar incident last year, the administrator of  Htanpinchaunglay village, U Chit Win, was shot dead in his home by unidentified gunmen.
