Fierce clashes continue daily in Kawkareik, Karen State, as the military junta attempts to solidify control over the town against local revolutionary allied forces, according to resistance groups.

In recent days, the junta has escalated its use of attack drones, targeting areas where resistance forces are active.
“The Aung Zeya Column has entered Kawkareik and is trying to establish a foothold, leading to intense clashes. The use of heavy artillery has decreased, while drone strikes have significantly increased. I believe they have gained access to the drone technology we have been using,” said a comrade on the front lines of the Kawkareik battle.
Pro-military Telegram channels report that over 800 Turkish-made attack drones have been deployed for use in the Kawkareik battle.
Currently, the Aung Zeya Column, along with Operation Command Headquarters-12 based in Kawkareik and Infantry Battalion 97 under Kyondoe and Nabu Light Infantry Battalions, is carrying out drone strikes against resistance forces using Turkish-made drones.
“They are reportedly sourcing drone equipment primarily from China and Turkiye. It seems they have gained access to new technology. With the increase in drone attacks, we must remain highly vigilant,” said another revolutionary fighter.
Throughout the battle, the junta has been using drones for both reconnaissance and airstrikes on areas where resistance coalition forces are positioned, while resistance forces have responded with their own counter-drone attacks.
According to resistance sources, clashes between the military junta and revolutionary forces have been ongoing in the Kawkareik region as of February 25.
