Authorities have arrested a man in connection with a child rape case in Yathaytaung village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State. According to local sources, the suspect has been taken into custody at the Thanbyuzayat Police Station, where legal action has been initiated against him.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old U Naing Winn, allegedly raped his 11-year-old biological daughter multiple times. His wife was reportedly aware of the abuse but remained silent due to his threats. However, on February 9, she finally reported the case to the local Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), who arrested the suspect and transferred him to the police.
“The mother knew her daughter was being abused repeatedly, but she was too afraid to report it. Her husband threatened to kill her if she told anyone. Eventually, she couldn’t stay silent any longer and went to DKBA for help. DKBA arrested him and handed him over to the police,” a local source told IMNA.
Further investigation revealed that U Naing Winn had previously served time in prison for murder. He was married twice and had children from both marriages. Originally from Ayeyarwady Region, he had moved to Yathaytaung village with his family for work as a fisherman.
“He had already served time for murder, according to his wife. This is his second marriage. He has one child from his first wife and another from his current wife. The victim is his biological daughter from his second wife. They live in the coastal area of Yathaytaung village and work as fishermen,” the source added.
Currently, authorities have filed charges against U Naing Winn under Myanmar’s Penal Code for child rape, which carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and can extend to life imprisonment.
