Clashes between military junta forces and revolutionary coalition troops near the old Kyonlaung village in Ye Township, Mon State, continue to escalate, forcing over 600 residents to flee to safety, according to local sources.

The fighting has prompted heavy artillery shelling by junta forces stationed in Ye, as well as airstrikes targeting Kyonlaung, Kyaukmichaung, Weipaung, and Weizin villages. Entire populations from these four villages have fled, seeking refuge in Dhammaparla village, an area controlled by the New Mon State Party (NMSP). Women and children are reportedly among the displaced.
“Aid is urgently needed for the displaced families, including blankets, mats, and food supplies,” said an NMSP official from Dawei District.
Tensions began on January 8, 2025, when the junta imposed a blockade on the Ye-Yechaungphyar road, halting the transport of goods and creating further hardships for local communities.
Currently, significant numbers of junta troops are deployed near the Dhamikayon Bo Kalay Tora monastery and Aingpoke village along the Ye-Yechaungphyar road. Both sides are reportedly reinforcing their troops, with no signs of a resolution in sight.
“Both sides are building up their forces, and the conflict doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon. The junta hasn’t made any significant advances so far; they’re relying on defensive tactics,” said a local military analyst.
Fighting intensified after revolutionary coalition forces were reported to have entered the Kyonlaung area, prompting the military junta to launch mortar shell attacks and send reinforcements on January 8.
The ongoing conflict has left the region unstable and disrupted the lives of thousands, as the fighting shows no signs of abating.
