Two NMSP Soldiers Injured in Explosion Caused by Military Junta Shelling

-

Two members of the New Mon State Party (NMSP) were injured due to an explosion caused by heavy artillery fire from the military junta’s troops in Ye Township, Mon State, according to the NMSP and sources close to the party.

The incident occurred during a battle on December 17 near Kwan Kyike village, which is close to Mawkanin village. The military council’s forces, from No. 588th Light Infantry Battalion, 317th Artillery Battalion, and No. 106th Infantry Battalion stationed in Ye Township, continuously shelled the area with heavy artillery.

One of the shells fired by the military junta’s forces exploded near the NMSP township office in the old town of Ye, injuring two NMSP soldiers.

It is unclear whether the shelling was a direct attack on the NMSP office or if the explosion was accidental, as the NMSP and a source close to them have stated.

“One of the injured soldiers, a unit commander, sustained minor injuries, while the other, a police officer, was severely wounded,” the source added.

The police officer, who sustained serious leg injuries, is currently undergoing emergency surgery.

On the morning of December 17, the Mon State Revolution Forces (MSRF), the People’s Defense Force (PDF) Downa Brigade, KNLA Unit 27, the NMSP’s Anti-Military Regime Force (NMSP-AD), and YPDF launched a coordinated attack on the military council’s camp near Kwan Kyike village.

During the attack on the military camp, four soldiers from the military junta, including a general and a senior officer, were killed, and at least seven others were injured. The revolutionaries also seized weapons and military supplies, and the camp was set on fire and destroyed.
