Daily clashes are occurring along the Thanbyuzayat-Payathonzu road and near Ahnankwin village, a strategic area connecting Mon and Karen States, according to resistance forces and local residents.
The military junta is fiercely defending its strategic Ahnankwin base, while resistance coalition forces are persistently attempting to seize it, resulting in continuous engagements between the two sides.
Resistance forces have ambushed military junta reinforcements traveling along the Thanbyuzayat-Payathonzu road, leading to intensified fighting near Sakangyi, Ye Takhon, Zeehnitpin, and Thetkaw villages.
“Clashes happen almost daily. Sometimes there are casualties, but other times there aren’t. The junta’s troops are advancing from Thanbyuzayat through Zeehnitpin and Ye Takhon areas. More updates on casualties will be shared later,” said a spokesperson for the Red Dragon Column Battalion-2.
On November 22, a battle broke out in Zeehnitpin village between a military column of about 100 junta troops and resistance coalition forces. The military junta’s support Telegram channels reported that two bodies and several vehicles were seized in Zeehnitpin village.
“Gunfire is heard nearly every day. Villagers flee whenever fighting intensifies and return when it calms down. The same happens whenever aircraft sounds are heard,” said a displaced resident from Ahnankwin.
Clashes in the area intensified after resistance joint forces launched an attack on the Ahnankwin strategic military junta base around mid-August.
The conflict has displaced residents from Ahnankwin and nearby villages, many of whom have been unable to return home for over three months.
During the campaign to seize the Ahnankwin base, resistance forces also captured Taungzun and Lutshan bases along the Thanbyuzayat-Payathonzu road. Currently, the Ahnankwin base remains the sole stronghold of the military junta along this route.
