Lin Oo, leader of the People’s Militia in Ayu-Taung Village, Ye Township, Mon State, was injured during a shooting incident and passed away, according to sources close to the Ayu-Taung People’s Militia.
The source confirmed that Lin Oo was transported to Mawlamyine General Hospital for medical treatment but passed away on the evening of November 23rd.
“Lin Oo has passed away. He died in the evening. He had multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen. Despite receiving treatment at Mawlamyine Hospital, he couldn’t survive,” the source said.
Three other members of the People’s Militia were injured in the incident, as well as a man collecting donations, and a female passerby.
“Lin Oo was alert and surrounded by his sentries when the attackers ambushed him. He couldn’t escape as they closed in and opened fire. Lin Oo shot back, but their numbers overwhelmed him,” the source added.
A retired captain, Lin Oo led the People’s Militia and operated checkpoints along the Ayu Taung-Ye Road.
The militia, led by the ex-military officer, often carried out tasks aligned with the military council’s directives, making them frequent targets of resistance forces.
On October 6th, the New Mon State Party’s Anti-Dictatorship Group (NMSP-AD) attacked the People’s Militia at the Ayu-Taung Village Administrator’s Office, injuring three members.
Similarly, on January 24th, three People’s Militia members traveling with Lin Oo were killed when their convoy was ambushed by the Ye Blue Group.
