Military Junta Seals Home of Freelance Journalist Killed in Shooting

-

The military junta has sealed the home of Ko Htet Myet Thu, a freelance journalist from Letpya village, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, who was fatally shot by junta forces, according to local sources.

On November 22, junta troops, accompanied by administrative officials, arrived at the home of Ko Htet Myet Thu’s mother, Daw Soe Soe Khaing, and padlocked the property.

“Military personnel and local officials came and locked the house with vinyl. Ko Htet Myet Thu’s mother, Daw Soe Soe Khaing, is reportedly in hiding,” a resident shared.

The journalist’s house was previously raided on August 21 by junta forces in the Letpya village area. During that attack, Ko Htet Myet Thu, fellow journalist Ko Win Htut Oo, and two members of the Kyaikto Resistance Force (KRF) were killed.

Daw Soe Soe Khaing is also facing charges under Myanmar’s Counter-Terrorism Law, specifically Sections 49(a), 52(a), and 54, filed at the Kyaikto Township police station.

Since the military coup, the junta has been systematically targeting opposition figures in Kyaikto Township by sealing their homes, including those of protest leaders, Members of Parliament, and individuals accused of ties to resistance groups.
