Rescue teams have recovered 20 bodies, including children, following the tragic sinking of a boat near Kyauk Ka village in Palaw Township. The boat, which was en route to Myeik and carrying over 80 passengers, sank on the night of October 20 due to overloading and poor weather.

By October 22, the bodies of 20 victims had been retrieved, with many of them being children and students. Approximately 60 people were rescued alive, while search efforts continue for the eight passengers still missing.
The boat was transporting a mix of war refugees, government workers, students, and local villagers. Authorities believe the overloading of passengers and goods contributed to the accident.
