Armed Robbery at Gold Shop in Lamaing, Stolen Items Worth Millions of Kyats

-

A gold shop in Lamaing township, Mon State, was robbed in broad daylight on the morning of September 3, with the thieves making off with gold items valued at millions of kyats.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at the “Yuzana” jewelry and gold shop located in the Shin Saw Pu market complex in Lamaing. Four armed men, riding on two motorbikes, executed the robbery, stealing a box containing gold jewelry weighing approximately 40 ticals of gold. They fired gunshots as they fled, according to a local witness.

“We don’t know exactly when they arrived, but people nearby said they had been waiting. When the shop owner came to open the store, they acted quickly. They grabbed the gold box just as the owner was unloading items,” the local added.

Security camera footage from a nearby CCTV showed two of the robbers entering the shop with helmets and raincoats to conceal their identities.

The stolen box reportedly contained between 400 and 500 platinum and gold earrings, with an estimated value of more than a hundred thousand kyats.

Since the military coup, Lamaing Township has experienced an increase in thefts, burglaries, and armed robberies, with gun-related crimes becoming more frequent.
