Father and Daughter from the USDP Shot Dead in Kyaikto

-

A father and daughter, both members of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), were shot dead in Mokekhamu Village, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, on the night of September 23.

The victims, U Myint Aung and his daughter, Ma Win Nu Khaing, also known as Ma Kay, were at their home around 8:30 PM when four gunmen arrived on two motorcycles and fired about eight shots at them.

Both U Myint Aung and his daughter died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.

U Myint Aung was the village secretary for the USDP, while his daughter was a member of the party’s youth wing.

“It seems like they were targeted because of their involvement with the USDP. Political party members in this area have been frequently attacked,” a local resident remarked.

Since the military takeover in Mon State, members of political parties, village administrators, and those accused of collaborating with the military have often been targeted in attacks, particularly in the war-torn Thaton District, where shootings occur almost daily.
