In Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, five members of a local social rescue team, including its chairman, were arrested by military junta forces, according to local sources.
The incident occurred on the night of September 18, around 11:30 PM, when military personnel arrived in vehicles at the office of the social rescue team located in Aungmingalar Ward. The arrested individuals include Chairman U Ye Min Htike, Ko Ye Naing Oo, Ko Zaw Wan, and two other members.
The five detainees were taken to a military training school based in Weakali Village, where they have been under interrogation until at least September 20, according to a person close to the team.
“At around 11:12 PM on the 18th, military forces arrived in cars and took them away. No one knows exactly why they were arrested, but everyone is eager to find out. We’ve heard they are being interrogated at the military base and remain there,” said the source.
Family members have expressed concern, as they have had no contact with the detainees for two days since their arrest.
This is not the first such incident in the region. On May 29, five members of a youth charity group, including its chairman, were arrested in Lamaing Township, but were released a week later.
Since the military coup, members of social rescue teams in Mon State have faced increasing arrests. Two members of a rescue team from Thanbyuzayat and Mudon townships were previously sentenced to prison by the junta.
