Fierce fighting broke out three times in one day between the military junta and Joint Revolutionary Forces in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, resulting in the deaths of five junta soldiers, according to a statement from the revolutionary forces.
The first clash occurred around 2:30 p.m. on September 17 near Atwin Sakhangyi village, where around 100 junta soldiers were stationed. They were attacked by the Taung Nyo military column of the Joint Revolutionary Forces.
Later, between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., the same revolutionary forces launched a second assault on junta troops conducting area clearance operations.
At around 4:30 p.m., another group of junta soldiers moving near Yetagon village was ambushed by the Joint Revolutionary Forces.
During these skirmishes, five junta soldiers were killed and four others injured, while the revolutionary forces reported no casualties and were able to retreat safely, according to a statement by the Taung Nyo column.
The Joint Revolutionary Forces also reported that junta troops along the Ye-Thanbyuzayat road have been facing continuous attacks, with significant losses among their ranks.
