Three local residents from Hnit Ka Rin village in Mon State’s Ye Township were injured following a mortar shell attack by the military junta near the Yarmanya fuel station, according to local sources.
The incident occurred in the early afternoon of September 5, while the Revolutionary Joint Forces were conducting security checks near the Hnit Ka Rin road junction. Mortar fire was launched by the 317th artillery battalion based in Mawkanin, resulting in the injuries of two men aged between 40 and 50, and a woman.
A local resident confirmed that one of the men, who sustained serious injuries, has been transferred to Mawlamyine Hospital. The other two were taken to Lamaing Hospital for treatment.
“Around 12 p.m., the Revolutionary Forces were conducting security checks when suddenly, a mortar shell hit. A passerby was injured, and a couple inside a betel shop were also hit. They were taken to Lamaing Hospital, and the more seriously injured man was sent to Mawlamyine,” added a local resident.
Additionally, it was reported that a member of the Revolutionary Joint Forces was injured during the shelling.
On September 6, the military junta’s 317th artillery unit again fired mortar shells from Mawkanin, though the extent of the damage remains unclear.
In late August, the junta forces stationed at the Hnit Ka Rin junction withdrew following clashes with the Revolutionary Forces on August 22. The military junta has frequently shelled the Thanbyuzayat-Ye-Dawei road, with at least six clashes reported in August alone.
