Civilian Injured by Mortar Shell Fired by Military Junta in Ye Township

-

A civilian was injured in Leinmawchan village, Ye Township, Mon State, on July 29 due to a mortar shell fired by the military junta.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when a mortar shell launched by the military’s 317th Light Infantry Division exploded in Leinmawchan village, injuring a 48-year-old man with shrapnel wounds to his chest and legs, according to local sources.

A resident from Mawkaninn said, “The military junta was indiscriminately firing mortars from a position near Leinmawchan. The injured man was running from a neighbor’s house back to his own when he was hit by the shell.”

The injured man has been transported to Lamaing Hospital for treatment by the local rescue team.

On May 11, a similar incident occurred in Mawkaninn village when a 56-year-old man was injured by a mortar shell fired by the same military unit. Additionally, on March 27, another mortar attack by the 317th Light Infantry Division injured a 48-year-old woman in Konepaw village.

Residents also expressed concerns that the 317th Light Infantry Division, fearing potential attacks by Joint Revolutionary Forces, has been regularly shelling the area.
