The military junta is intensifying its human rights violations and war crimes in Mon State, according to the Lagon Eain bulletin.
The bulletin reports that armed conflicts have become more widespread in Mon State, with particularly fierce fighting occurring in the townships of Thaton, Bilin, Kyaikto, Kyaikmaraw, Thanbyuzayat, and Ye, where resistance forces are highly active.
As the conflict has escalated, so have human rights abuses, which have become increasingly severe. In June alone, the junta killed 10 people and injured 26 others in Mon State, according to data compiled by Lagon Eain.
Most of the human rights violations involve arbitrary arrests, killings, injuries from indiscriminate shelling by the military, and casualties from landmine explosions. The report also noted that 8 of the victims were children.
In addition to targeting unarmed civilians, the military junta has been systematically looting and destroying civilian property. The report highlighted that, in June, 21 people were arrested for various reasons, and more than 18 homes were destroyed due to the junta’s artillery shelling.
The escalating violence and increasing human rights violations have caused widespread fear and suffering among the residents of Mon State.
