MNDAA Captures Northeastern Military Command Headquarters in Lashio

-

The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) announced that they successfully captured the Northeastern Military Command Headquarters in Lashio Township, northern Shan State, on July 25, at approximately 4 AM.

The headquarters, located near Lashio Airport, was initially attacked by the MNDAA on July 3. After 22 days of intense fighting, the MNDAA took full control of the facility.

Local residents report that gunfire continues in the vicinity of the headquarters, with some civilians trapped in the area.

“Last night, there was mortar shelling and gunfire. The fighting was concentrated inside the command base, and civilians in the vicinity are trapped with no escape routes. As MNDAA forces moved in, the situation for those trapped became dire,” a resident stated.

Sources indicate that while some military junta soldiers remain inside the headquarters, many have fled. Additionally, troops from the 522nd Battalion, also based in Lashio, are still present in the town, with junta snipers positioned in various locations.

In recent days, the MNDAA has also captured the 41st and 58th Infantry Battalions and the 507th Light Infantry Battalion, which are based in Lashio.

This takeover marks the first time the junta has lost a regional military command headquarters since the coup.
