A battle broke out between the military junta troops and the Joint Revolutionary Forces around 6 PM today, July 23, in Mawkanin-Ywarthit, Ye Township, Mon State.
Approximately 100 junta soldiers entered the area on July 22 and established a base at the pagoda in Mawkanin-Ywarthit.
The Joint Revolutionary Forces, operating locally, launched a close-range attack on the junta troops stationed at the pagoda.
“The junta forces were stationed at the Ywarthit Pagoda. The clash lasted for about 20 minutes this evening, resulting in at least one junta soldier’s death,” a member of the Joint Revolutionary Forces siad.
Since early June, the military junta has been deploying troops into Ye Township, leading to ongoing clashes with the Joint Revolutionary Forces.
Nai Banyar Mon, spokesperson for the New Mon State Party (NMSP-AD), warned that the situation could escalate into further conflicts at any moment due to the presence of junta troops in the area.
The attack on the junta’s position at the Ywarthit Pagoda was carried out by the Tayungnyo Forces, NMSP-AD, Tabinshwehti, and Padekaw Joint Forces.
