In Thanpyuzayat Township, Mon State, two men killed by the military junta near the village of Kankin Gyi have been identified as members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF).
On July 15, around 1 PM, two men traveling on a motorcycle from Weitaw village toward Kankin Gyi village were shot by military junta personnel dressed in civilian clothing.
The victims were confirmed to be members of the Taungnyo military battalion. They were reportedly targeted while on a reconnaissance mission for the junta, according to sources close to the Taungnyo battalion.
The military junta has also seized a firearm and some ammunition from the PDF members.
Following the incident, there was a clash between over 100 junta troops and resistance fighters in the area. The exchange of fire lasted approximately 20 minutes, according to reports from both sides.
Since late June, military junta forces have been actively infiltrating and conducting operations along the major Union Highway Route No. 8, which connects Mawlamyine, Mudon, Thanpyuzayat, Ye, Dawei, and Myeik. Local residents report that the junta has been carrying out extensive cordon operations in these areas.
