Military Junta’s Travel Restrictions Cause Food Shortages in Dawei District

-

Local sources report that residents of Dawei District in Yephyu Township are facing significant food shortages due to travel restrictions imposed by the military junta.

The travel limitations have been in place for the past five days, following clashes between the combined revolutionary forces and military junta troops in Myauk Chaw Village. The military junta has stationed troops in the village, severely restricting the movement of local residents.

A local resident told IMNA via phone, “It’s very difficult to get to the road from Raphu and Middle Camp. We can only leave if the military junta allows it. Movement is extremely challenging, so the hungry remain hungry, and essential supplies like rice and food are running out.”

The restrictions have affected nine villages in Dawei District with nearly 3,000 residents, experiencing severe food shortages. Over 1,500 residents from Myauk Chaung, Meik Seik, Yone Pyin, Kyauk Doan, Maraut Chaung, and Naga Aing are caught in the conflict areas.

An IMNA source stated, “The military junta troops have labeled these villages as PDF (People’s Defense Force) villages, accusing them of supporting the PDFs.”

The source added, “There are about 150 troops in Myauk Chaw village, but the exact numbers elsewhere are unknown. If this continues, the conflict won’t end easily.”

Since the clashes began on June 19, the military junta troops have advanced into areas around Myauk Chaw Village, Naga Aing, and Kyawng Lya Kwin in Dawei District. On June 23rd, it was reported that the military junta reinforced their presence with three additional military vehicles.

On June 19th and 20th, the military junta conducted airstrikes, intensified inspections, and took control over the local residents, burning down over 40 houses in Myauk Chaung. On June 22nd, houses in Naga Aing Village were also set on fire.

As of 9 AM today, the military junta troops fired artillery in Myauk Chaw, Yone Pyin, and Kyauk Doan villages. The military junta’s 282nd Infantry Battalion, in collaboration with other battalions and revolutionary forces such as the Dawna Column, KTLA, MSRF, NMSP-AD, ABSDF, KPDF, and YGF, are involved in the ongoing conflict.
