Shooting Incident Reported in Kyaikmarraw Township

-

Shooting incidents were reported around 9 PM on June 22 near Taranar Village in Kyaikmarraw Township, Mon State.

The clashes erupted when the New Mon State Party (AD) launched an attack on a military junta camp stationed in the Kyun Kone area of Taranar Village.

“Our comrades fired an RPG at the Kyun Kone camp where the military junta troops were stationed. There was a brief exchange of fire, and then our comrades withdrew. We are still investigating the extent of the damage,” said an official from the New Mon State Party (AD).

Following the attack, military junta troops stationed in Taranar Village and the Kyun Kone area reportedly fired mortar shells and small arms outside the village.

“They were firing from the Taranar Village monastery and the police station. We’re not sure what they were targeting. The gunfire ceased before 10 PM,” a local resident reported.

Since the takeover of the Kyonepyaw Police Station on March 25, 2024, military junta troops have been stationed in villages along the Myawaddy Road in Kyaikmarraw Township, including Kothet, Kotswe, Taranar, Kyun Kone, Thangkalon, and Dhammathasat villages.
