Millions of People Displaced in KNU-Controlled Areas

-

During the over three years since the military coup, it has been reported by the Karen National Union (KNU) that millions of people have been displaced within its controlled territories.

In KNU-controlled areas such as Thaton District, Taungoo District, Nyaunglebin District, Myeik-Dawei District, Papun District, Duplaya District, and Hpa-an District, nearly 500,000 displaced people are located in Nyaunglebin District, the highest number among the districts.

There are over 150,000 displaced people in Duplaya District and more than 140,000 in Thaton District.

Out of the more than one million displaced people, KNU has provided humanitarian aid to over 600,000, according to their statement.

During the over three years since the military coup, the number of internally displaced persons in Myanmar has exceeded three million, with a significant increase of more than 50% in the last six months, according to a report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Before the military coup, there were only about 350,000 internally displaced persons in Myanmar, but this number has increased more than tenfold during the coup period.
