The military junta has been reinforcing its troops around Myaukchaw Village, located near Yaphu Village Tract in Yephyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, in an effort to tighten control over the area.
On the morning of June 19, 2024, intense fighting erupted near Myaukchaw Village as large numbers of junta troops from the Light Infantry Battalions 282 and 410, based in Kaleinaung Town, and the Mawrawaddy Navy Headquarters in Kanpauk, advanced into the region, according to the allied resistance forces.
“The junta is attacking with three columns. Last night, they brought in an additional 200 troops. The situation is still too fluid to determine the outcome,” a member of the resistance forces said.
The resistance in this battle includes the Dawna Group, ABSDF, the Ye Guerrillas, the Ye Peacock Forces, the Ye Air Force (Drone), the Kanpauk People’s Defense Forces, the Mon National Liberation Army, and the New Mon State Party (AD).
Military sources informed IMNA that hundreds of junta troops are deployed along the Ye-Dawei road and near villages such as Yaphu, indicating the potential for ongoing clashes.
“The junta reinforced their presence near Myaukchaw Village, aiming to gain control. They have over 60 troops inside the village and an estimated 100 more surrounding it,” a local resident reported.
“Therefore, further clashes could erupt at any moment.”
On June 19, clashes in Myaukchaw Village, where the New Mon State Party’s Dawei District Headquarters is located, resulted in the military junta setting fire to over 40 homes, forcing many locals to flee for safety.
