In Kyaungywar Village, Ye Township, Mon State, the military junta has tightened controls at the entrance and exit gates of the village since March 1st.
According to the local residents of Kyaungywa, the military junta is conducting round-the-clock plainclothes checks, prompted by intelligence suggesting an attack from revolutionary forces on the 591st Infantry Battalion stationed in the village may be imminent.
“The situation is dire. The military junta is making numerous arrests outside the village here, based on suspicions. I had to delete messages from my phone to avoid trouble. They are checking bags and motorcycle boxes,” said a local resident.
Those interrogated on the street were beaten and arrested by the military junta forces, and were only released when the village Head came for them.
In addition, the r 6:00 pm curfew has been tightened again, forcing farm workers to stay at the rubber plantation.
“At the moment, nobody dares to travel. Fewer people are going to the farm now. And if they do, they take all the necessary items and food with them and stay there. We no longer dare to return to the farm or our homes like before,” he said.
Some rubber workers have stopped working, for fear of the punishment from the junta, for travelling outside of curfew hours.
The military junta’s 583rd and 591st infantry battalions are stationed around Kyaungywa.
Since the military coup began, the 591st Infantry Battalion, police outposts, and 591st Battalion transport vehicles , and the anti-forestry forces based in Ye Township have been targets of frequent attacks.
