On March 4th, the Arakan Army (AA), one of the three northern allies, declared that it has seized control of Ponnagyun Township in Rakhine State.
The AA stated that the military junta forces, having lost control of Ponnagyun township, destroyed the Zaydepyin bridge on the Rathedaung-Ponnagyun highway using multiple attacks dropping bombs via jet planes.
Now that Ponnagyun Township in Rakhine State has been reclaimed, the Arakan Army (AA) has extended its control to a total of seven towns, including Pauktaw, Minbya, Mrauk-U, Kyauktaw, and Myebon Townships, as well as Paletwa Township in Chin State.
Arakan Army Deputy Chief Dr. Nyo Tun Aung stated the 1027 operation alliance members MNDAA and TNLA have agreed to a ceasefire in northern Shan areas. However, battles continue in the junta occupyied towns of Buthidaung, Rathedaung, Maungdaw, Ramree, Sittwe in Rakhine State.
According to the AA, between November 13rth, 2023, and February 13rth, 2024, 111 people were killed, 357 were injured, and 192 were arrested. Additionally, more than 300,000 people have fled the war.
