There are thousands of people who have been forced to flee the war due to the recent conflict in Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region, according to a refugee aid worker.
Starting in the second week of September, the military junta in Palaw Township escalated their weaponry and troop, engaging in ongoing conflict with the People’s Defense Forces in the region.
Local residents report that during the conflict, the military junta arrested hundreds of civilians, shot five, and burned over 30 homes.
Due to fighting and arrests by the military junta, residents of Madaung, Letku, Pyinhpyu, and Pitat villages have been forced to flee.
“Those villages might have thousands of people. What we need most is food, but donating money is more convenient,” said a refugee aid worker.
Due to ongoing shootings and arrests by the military junta, some people in Pala town have fled to nearby villages and towns.
Palaw Township, declared under martial law, has the highest incidence of conflict and the largest population of displaced people.
According to the Dawna Tenasserim – IDPs Supply Force, a research group, there are approximately ten thousand IDPs in Palaw Township, with more than 2,600 of them being permanent IDPs.
