The British government has banned British citizens from traveling to some regions and states in Myanmar where armed conflicts are taking place due to the military coup.
This information was included in the travel advisory for British citizens, which was issued by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) on September 18, 2023.
According to the statement, travel bans are imposed on Mon, Karen, Chin, Karenni, northern Rakhine State, and Sagaing, Magway, and Tanintharyi Regions.
The British government’s statement recommended that people avoid traveling to central areas of Rakhine State, including Shan State, Mandalay Division, and Sittwe District, unless absolutely necessary.
Myanmar’s security situation is unpredictable, and currently, areas related to the military junta, including Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, are considered military targets.
In addition, the British government advises citizens to exercise caution, as attacks can occur at any time in places frequented by foreigners, such as hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers.
After the military coup, conflict and terrorist attacks, including air attacks, mortar shells, and landmines, have intensified throughout Myanmar.
