After the family of retired Lieutenant Colonel U Aung Lwin was shot in Taungthusu Ward, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, residents report that 5 local individuals have been arrested and are currently being interrogated.
On September 8, around 5:00 p.m., retired Lieutenant Colonel U Aung Lwin, his wife Daw Sandar Moe, and their son were shot by two gunmen in front of their house. Daw Sandar Moe died, and their son was seriously injured.
After the incident, military junta troops obtained CCTV camera footage from the Zabuaye beer shop near the scene and subsequently pursued local residents who had been nearby during the incident.
“According to the CCTV footage, the taxi driver, Ko Bala, was the first to be arrested and is currently under investigation. Additionally, a married couple from Station Road and two young individuals from Northern Ward were also arrested,” said a resident.
The 5 arrested locals are currently undergoing interrogation at Kyaikto township Police Station and have not been released.
The incident is under investigation by the township authorities.
“Since the shooting of U Aung Lwin’s family, two men riding together on a motorcycle have been arrested and are under investigation. Previously, riding motorcycles by two individuals was prohibited, but nobody followed the rule. It’s enforced more strictly now,” said a resident of Kyaikto.
In Paung Township, Yinnyein (South) Village, 8 locals were arrested by the military junta following the shooting of a former member of the People’s Army.
In the first week of September last year, following the shooting of a border policeman from the Paung Township police station, the military junta arrested at least 10 local people. That group of individuals, including a woman, from Oketadar village in Paung township, remain in custody to this day.
