Local Arrested by Military Junta in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Border Police Officer

The military junta has apprehended a local individual in connection with the fatal shooting of  border police officer Ko Ko Lwin in Paung Township. The arrest took place  in the morning of September 4th and the suspect was arrested at his home.

The individual taken into custody is U Sow Moe Aung, and detained at the Paung township police station.  U Sow Moe Aung is a resident of Oketadar Village in Paung Township, and earns his livelihood as a refrigerator repairman. 

“Two days ago, Koko Lwin, a border police officer, was shot dead by a villager from Oketadar. The news was announced on the military junta’s propaganda channel, known as the telegram” said an anonymous person from Paung Township.

Koko Lwin, was shot while riding a motorcycle on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road, between Moenaing ward and Paung ward. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 pm on September 3rd, and died at the  scene.

“They (the military junta’s supporters) openly communicate with each other on platforms like Facebook and Telegram. Based on this information, arrests are made,” added a resident of Paung Township.

According to the Association for the Assistance for Political Prisoners (AAPP), between February 1, 2021, and September 4, 2023, approximately 7,300 out of nearly 25,000 individuals who were arrested have received prison sentences.
